Sunglasses

They are the everlasting statement associated with being cool. Sunglasses. And while they will forever be immortalized on iconic figures such as James Dean and Karl Largafeld, sunglasses can also have damaging negative effect, essentially making the person in case look like a tool.

As of late, the fashion world has really embraced this accessory in a myriad of forms and colors. Although oversized frames have been the most popular look, classic demure styles seem to be becoming more prevalent. (as seen with the recent popularity of brands like Ray Ban and Perisol)

With so many choices it can be difficult to chose just the right pair. Here are some guidelines I follow, ensuring I have just the right pair to go with my look of the day.

1.) Color: You can never go wrong with black. Brown, a neutral color, runs a close second and goes with almost any color combination you happen to be wearing that day. If you wear a colored lens or frame, good color selection is essential to avoid looking cheap. Navy is a great color after brown and black are in your collection. Beyond that, white or red are nice choices. However, the fashionable shelf-life of these glasses will be shorter, as well as options of what to wear with them. Let colored lenses and frames pop as an accesory and wear them with confidence. Wearing wild colors with colored sunglasses has an over-stylized feel. A more demure hairstyle and tailored outfit help to make the glasses look more sophisticated and less juvenile.

2.) Size: Ensure that sunglasses fit your face accordingly, always! That said, glasses that fit your face from aviators to sheilds are always a safe bet in terms of fashion. Sunglasses should cover the eye-brows and fall about 1/2 inch below from the bottom eyelid. Comfort is an important factor as well. Oversized sunglasses have been a popular trend lately. Iconic images of Jaqueline Kennedy-Onasis and Hunter S. Thompson are always good reference points on wearing an oversized frame. The key here is to treat them as a pair of colored sunglasses - let them have their spotlight as a strong accessory in relation of the rest of your outfit. If they reference a decade, try to keep that reference throughout the rest of your outfit to a
minimum to avoid costumerie.

3.) Style: Choosing a style is really a matter of taste. Keep in mind the above outline (with specific regard to size and fit) you'll automatically gravitate to styles that mesh well with your personal style. No matter what style you choose, try and keep something classic about it, whether it's the color or size - it's the best way to ensure that no matter what decade, trend, or iconic figure you're referencing - you'll always look chic and trˆ©s cool.
