i just started a new job and i've been wearing designer shoes almost every day. i get fabulous compliments (particularly on this gucci number i just picked up in florence...i must send a photo). basically i am not sure i can keep up the fabulosity...any ideas on how i can continue to bring the fire without going BROKE!!!!????

JJ

Dear JJ,

Kudos on your new job and even more so for clearly having left your new co-workers with a fabulous first impression. Presentation is everything. But, remember TRR readers, style is a concept not a designer label and as much as we all love to wrap ourselves in luxe labels, trust me you don't have to pay the price to express how fabulous you are. Shoes can make or break an outfit and as cute as it was to see our moms pump to work in the 80s in their Easy Spirits, we must always remember this mantra from my fabulous mother, 'You never know who you'll meet in the frozen section.' So my first choice to find great style at an even better price is DSW. It can be found in most cities and DSW.com has an even better selection than their stores. For those readers in New York City you'll be pleasantly surprised to a Designer Wall with everything from Bottega Veneta, Chloe, and Missoni. Now if it's rent week then look through their great finds at a lower price point from Isaac Mizrahi, Nicole Miller, and Chinese Laundry. I recently bought a delicious pair of magenta patent-leather 3 inch sandals with silver buckle adornment for only $60. They were for my mother. The Men's section is quite limited for my taste but for a basic office or gym sneaker you really can't go wrong.

Another incredible and recent find for great deals is Gilt Groupe. Membership is by invitation only but once you're in it's a thrilling way to shop. The people at Gilt.com offer clothes and accessories for the whole family. By whole family I don't mean Wal-Mart style wares. Rather, they offer Ralph Lauren, J.Mendel, Doo.Ri and John Varvatos. The best part is Gilt Groupe only allows 36 hours to shop the designers they're featuring that week. Think of it as the Barney's Warehouse Sale without one of the Housewives of New York City thinking she's going to wrestle those pair of Dior suede boots out of your hands. FYI, she learned her lesson the hard way. Another great incentive for joining Gilt.com is if you invite friends you get a $25 credit after your friend's first purchase. The downside is that you can only return items for credit.

So JJ, good luck in your shopping ventures and don't forget it's all about the look not just label.

Gros bisous, Izzy

Girl - Another site to check out is ideeli.com. They have great purses and shoes all of the time. It is another members only site, however I sent you an invite so check your box. Topbutton.com is a great place to watch out for sample sales - which are great for bargins. Also - Consignment shops are great! Check out Tokio 7 in New York City.

XOXO, Luke
